Hello winter! 🌬❄

We’re now just a few weeks into Winter 2023, and we’ve still got more than two full months to go. In North Carolina and Virginia everyone is wondering whether we’ll see any snow this winter or not. It’s really too early to tell, but long-range models are suggesting that more Arctic blasts will come, and the month of February is trending colder than average.

Winter is typically the slowest season for roofers

Roofers will tell you that winter is the slowest season for the roofing industry. That probably isn’t surprising to you; winter weather can sometimes make some projects more difficult. Some roofing contractors will even refuse winter work as a result.

Thankfully for you, Skywalker Roofing isn’t one of those contractors! Roofs in NC and VA can develop problems in any season, including winter. And when roof repairs are required, or whenever a total roof replacement is needed, you really can’t afford to wait until spring to give your roof the timely attention it needs. The longer you put it off, the more your roof issues can multiply, and potentially cause damage to other parts of your house as well. If you’re currently experiencing a roofing problem, Skywalker is here to meet your need!

But, why is winter such a slow season for roofing?

That’s a great question! There are several reasons why winter is a slower season for roofing professionals, including the following:

1. Oftentimes, homeowners and business owners who want to be proactive will try to schedule any needed roofing work before the colder winter months arrive.

2. Many roofers simply aren’t trained, equipped, or experienced enough in working on roofs in winter temperatures; some roofing contractors won’t even schedule roof projects over the winter.

3. Another key driver in the winter roofing slowdown has to do with people’s general perceptions about when roofing can and can’t be done. Many assume that roof work in general, and roof replacements in particular, simply can’t be done when it’s cold outside.

That third point is likely one of the biggest factors leading to the roofing market slowdown over the winter. Many homeowners and business owners have picked up some false information along the way, and have come to believe that roof work in the winter isn’t even an option. But we’re here to tell you that this is a false assumption!

So, can a roof be installed successfully in the winter?

Yes, it can! Now we come to the fact-or-fiction statement we posed in the title of this article. Despite what you may have heard, new roof installations really can be performed during the winter in NC and VA. How do we know? We know, because we perform successful roof installations every single day! At Skywalker, our team of roofing professionals puts on roofs all through December, January, February, March, and every other month of the year, too.

One common myth that circulates about roofing work is that winter temperatures are simply too cold for a shingle installation. But that really isn’t the case, especially in NC and VA. In fact, Skywalker Roofing owner and founder Luke Wilson decided to put that myth to the test when he filmed this episode of Roofing Mythbusters. Wilson put out some Owens Corning Duration Shingles on a cool day in January day, and then went on to demonstrate how asphalt shingles can and will adhere properly, even during colder weather conditions.

At the end of the day, it isn’t really about the prevailing weather conditions, so much as it’s about the roofing materials you’ve chosen, and the roofing contractor you’ve entrusted to do the job right for you.

The pros at Skywalker are here to serve all your winter roofing needs in NC and VA

Many roofing contractors you may encounter are more about getting your money than they are about providing you with the best possible roof solution. But that’s not how Skywalker Roofing does business. We replace roofs for local NC and VA customers year-round, and we pride ourselves on doing it with excellence.

If it’s a shingle roof replacement you need, we can take care of that for you anytime, even in the winter. And the custom standing seam metal roofs we manufacture and install can be put on year-round; temperature really isn’t a factor with our metal roofs. As Jeff Slaughter, vice president of Skywalker Roofing puts it, “we’ve never seen a day where it’s too cold for us to go to work.”

We work with all popular roofing materials, including shingles, metal, slate, tile, wood shakes, and synthetic materials, and we’re experienced in providing both residential and commercial roof replacements. And Skywalker does more than just roofing, too. We also install gutters, gutter guards, siding, windows, exterior doors, and more.

For all your home exterior needs, no name is more trusted in North Carolina and southern Virginia than Skywalker!
