A local King military family received a new roof from Skywalker Roofing out of Eden on Monday as part of Owens Corning’s national Roof Deployment Project.
Sergeant David Easter, A-BTRY 5th 113th FA, who has served 15 years in the military, seven of which have been in the National Guard was selected to be part of the program.
“We’re excited to give back to our local military community through the Roof Deployment Project,” said Luke Wilson, Owner of Skywalker Roofing. “It’s a great honor that allows us to utilize our own expertise to give back to those servicemen and women who sacrifice so much for us.”
Easter’s wife, Michelle said it came as a surprise to her family.
“It’s wonderful to know people out there care about those who serve in the military. We really appreciate it and know it’s going to look great,” she said.
Wilson, who learned about the project at an annual roofing convention said he knew right away he wanted his company to be part of it.
“I’ve been in this business for 14 years. It doesn’t always have the best reputation. There was a study done by the Better Business Bureau and going back 50 years or so 3.4 million complaints were done on roofers,” he said. “We’ve really tried to change that image. We do things completely different than other companies. We really treat people well and offer the best finished product.”
Wilson and his crew arrived at 6:30 a.m. on Monday with materials provided by Owens Corning and breakfast for the family and workers.
“We’re proud to be able to provide this,” said Bobby Fillion, an employee of Skywalker Roofing. “We believe this is the best way to protect your home just like our military men and women do daily to protect this country.”
